“People who’ve just qualified don’t typically gravitate towards working with older people, but personally I think it’s a privilege”

Working on our Acute Care of the Elderly ward means you get to work as part of a well oiled multi-disciplinary team. But don’t take our word for it, here is what our nurses have to say:

“It’s a good ward to work on, the team are so supportive, from Nursing Assistants and Domestic staff to Doctors and Pharmacists. I am able to talk to everyone, they are always on the ward you’re never without them.”

“The team that I work with is absolutely brilliant and we all work together so well. I find even with our doctors, it takes a special kind of medical professional to communicate with these older people in a way that the patient needs. The doctors here really break down the barrier of ‘I’m the doctor and you’re the patient’ and it’s more relaxed in a way.  The therapy team are incredible – as nurses we wouldn’t be able to function without the Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists. We are just so lucky to have all of these people, because everybody is just as important in a team for Care of the Elderly.”

“Helping with mobility, functioning, washing and dressing is just as important as giving someone medication, we have patients that have a lot more of these care needs but that’s not all we do…”

It takes a gifted nurse to build a relationship with an older person and care for them as your own. Our Acute Care of the Elderly Ward are looking for like-minded experienced and newly qualified Band 5 Registered Nurses to join them.

Dealing with a diverse range of  acutely unwell patients who face heart problems, strokes, falls, wounds, palliative care, oncology, delirium or cognitive impairments – no two days are the same, allowing you to get an incredible grounding in general nursing.

As a successful candidate you will be joining a friendly and supportive team, with the scope to enhance your clinical and communication skills on a busy ward.

Bristol is consistently tipped as one of the UK’s top cities to live, rated for its stunning scenery and social scene.
