NICU Open Day

10th June 2024

Our NICU Open Day has now taken place, but there is still time to apply to attend our PICU event!

Are you ready to embark on an enriching journey into the heart of neonatal care?  Join us for an exclusive showcase event at our renowned NICU, where you’ll have the opportunity to dive into the world of neonatal nursing like never before.

👩‍⚕️ Meet our Expert Team: Get to know the dedicated professionals who form the backbone of our NICU.  We have a large multidisciplinary team (MDT) from nurses, nursery nurses, medics, consultants, allied health care professionals, all with a wealth of experience and knowledge.  All of which are committed to following our unit philosophy: working together with families to provide high quality, individualised care.

🤲 Hands-On Skills and Simulation: We have an excellent simulation team with state-of-the-art equipment to provide real time scenarios on NICU and delivery suite. Working alongside our experienced team you will have the opportunity to participate and reflect on various scenarios; providing a snapshot into a day in the life of an experienced NICU nurse at St Michaels and see how we work as one MDT.

🌟 Explore Career Pathways: The opportunities for continued professional development whilst working on NICU is vast, from university accredited courses and inhouse training for specialist roles.  Whether you’re an experienced QIS NICU nurse or an adult or paediatric critical care nurse or midwife looking to expand your horizons, we offer opportunities for growth and advancement.

ℹ️ About our Unit: Our NICU is one of three level three centres operating in the South West neonatal network. We are a tertiary centre and care for babies with respiratory, surgical, neurological and cardiac needs; this includes extreme pre-term babies and term babies from across the south west.  Our mission is to provide consistent and excellent family centred care with the best possible outcomes for all our patients and their families. We strive to provide an environment that promotes team working and fosters learning and research in a culture of openness and honesty to maintain our high standards. Infants will be cared for by an expert multidisciplinary team in an environment that is supportive of the developing relationship between families and their baby. We respect parent’s views and wishes and encourage the development of their parenting role by providing information, guidance and support which meets their individual needs. We recognise the need for parents and staff to be partners in care. We believe that this can be achieved through mutual trust and effective communication which maintains the dignity and privacy of our families.

🎓 Who should attend: Whilst neonatal experience and QIS is preferred we welcome registered adult and children’s nurses, ideally with critical care experience and midwives to join us.  Your passion, caring nature and dedication to excellence is what truly matters to us. As well as reflecting our Trust values in your every day practice and following the principles and professionalism of the NMC code of conduct.

Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to see for yourself in the world of neonatal care and take the next step in your professional journey.
