Meet Jayne Watters…
What do you love about your job?
I like the fast pace. I like being part of a team. It’s very friendly. The shifts fit within my work-life balance. I live in Weston so I don’t have to travel too far. It takes me 10 minutes to get to work.
What are the challenges?
The biggest challenges within our emergency department is flow through the department, but we are no different than any other Trust. We work very hard to give great patient care and we have lots of initiatives going on at the moment to ease the throughput through it.
Why do you love living in Weston?
I love the beach. I love the walks and the countryside so you can all come to Weston, but you can’t come to the beach because it’s mine.
What advice would you give to prospective employees?
There are great learning opportunities. You’ll be well supported. We are friendly team and we try to make everybody feel welcome and we support you, which is ideal for newly qualified nurses.
About the role…
An Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) is a senior practitioner working in the Emergency Department who has been specially trained to treat minor injuries without necessarily having to refer to a doctor.
They are qualified to assess, diagnose, treat and discharge patients with certain injuries without having to refer to a doctor. Previously, if you came to the Emergency Department with a minor injury, you would have to wait for a doctor to come and see you.
You might still have to wait but with the introduction of the ENP service, your wait should be greatly reduced.
They work within specific guidelines, drawn up with the agreement of the clinical lead of the Emergency Department. The ENP is qualified to treat patients suffering from conditions such as cuts, scalds, bites, sprains and strains
