Welcome
My name is Dr Benjamin Jelfs, I am the lead consultant here at the UHBW Acute department and I would like to thank you for visiting our recruitment website and for finding out more about what we do. We are an expanding team of consultants and both training and non-training grade doctors responsible for looking after;
• A 25 bed Acute Medical Unit (AMU)
• Medical Take daily between 09:00 and 19:00
• Medical SDEC
If you join our growing Acute department you will gain a rare opportunity to influence and shape future services and models of care. The BRI acute medical team currently consists of 2 substantive consultants, who work closely with the emergency department (ED), frailty service, and other specialties. Whilst the team is relatively small, the Trust has big plans and a vision for future development of the acute service. With this in mind, UHBW is keen to grow quickly – you will join a highly motivated and driven team all looking to pioneer and advance the department.
Dr Emma-Kate Reed – Clinical Chair
My name is Dr Emma-Kate Reed and I am the Clinical Chair for the Division of Medicine at UHBW. This is an exciting time for Acute Medicine which is the focus of our divisional plan to develop and support the front door teams and acute services. We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic Acute Physicians to join our team who can help shape our Acute Medicine vision.
The future of Acute care at UHBW
To underline the Trust’s commitment to developing its Acute Medical services, it has made major investments and changes to its model of care. There is a three year programme for further investment and expansion of the Acute Medicine Department. Milestones along this journey will see the creation of a dedicated short-stay unit, expansion of the Medical Assessment bed base and enhancing senior Acute Medicine physician leadership and presence on the Medical Take.
The Trust has recently established a Medical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) service, run jointly with the ED, which offers exciting opportunities in service development and improvement. Successful candidates will play a crucial role in supporting our ambition to optimise clinical pathways and ensure we deliver the right care at the right time in the right setting.”
