You will also have a chance to interview on the day and start your pre-employment checks.

Band 2 Healthcare Support Worker
Full time & Part time
A Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) is a core member of the team delivering personal care to patients and supporting registered practitioners to deliver high quality, compassionate care.
You will carry out a range of non-clinical healthcare tasks, under the direct supervision of the registered healthcare practitioner. Your role is to provide compassionate care, to agreed quality standards and in accordance with Trust values.
There will be opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills, specific to your individual needs. Training will be provided to ensure you have the required core skills and skills set specific to your area of work. You will also be supported to obtain your care certificate if you do not have this qualification.
Some of the duties of a Band 2 Healthcare Support Worker in a ward setting would include:
- Assisting patients with personal care including shower/bath, wash and use of the toilet facilities
- Assisting patients to eat and drink and complete relevant documentation
- Maintaining a good standard of cleanliness in the ward, including changing bed linen
- Ensuring that the patient’s bed space is safe and clean to minimise risk of harm to our patients.
- For individuals in a developmental or apprenticeship post, there will be further study and training to gain the clinical skills required for the band 3 role
Being a Band 2 HCSW is a great starting point in the NHS. It will give you a taste of what a career in healthcare is really like, open your eyes to the different roles you might want to work towards and if you’re thinking about applying for one of our NHS apprenticeships, the skills and experience you’ll gain will help your application really stand out.
If you’re just starting out or are looking to change careers, you may be surprised to learn that you’ve probably already got lots of the skills we’re looking for. A caring and compassionate nature is essential to the role, but you’ll also need to have good communication skills, be good at problem solving and also be able to make quick decision.

Band 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker
Full time & Part time
A Senior Health Care Support Worker (SHCSW) is a core member of the team delivering direct care to patients and supporting registered practitioners to deliver high quality, compassionate health care to people in accordance with assessed needs and a care plan.
You will carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare, or therapeutic tasks, under the direct or indirect supervision of the registered healthcare practitioner, in accordance with the Trust values.
There will be opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills, specific to your needs. Training will be provided to ensure you have the required core skills and skills set specific to your area of work. You will also be supported to obtain your care certificate if you do not have this qualification.
As an experienced HCSW you will in addition to the duties undertaken by a Band 2 HCSW (outlined above) be taking and recording patients’ vital signs, identifying and escalating changes to a patient’s condition to the registered nurse.
You will also be undertaking other clinical skills such as ECGs, venepuncture and cannulation, simple dressings as required by the area. You will able involved patient assessment, maintaining accurate patient records and obtaining consent prior to giving care.
When competent you will be training and supporting new and junior team members, including student nurses.
Senior HCSW also work in more specialist areas such as theatres, endoscopy and outpatients.
This is physically demanding role, assisting patients who may have poor mobility, and you will be on your feet for long periods.
This is an emotionally demanding role and requires you to adapt quickly to the constantly changing clinical demands on an acute inpatient ward.

Band 3 Maternity Services Support Worker

A Senior Maternity Support Worker (MSW) is a core member of the team delivering direct care to patients and supporting registered practitioners to deliver high quality, compassionate health care to people in accordance with assessed needs and a care plan.
You will carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare, or therapeutic tasks, under the direct or indirect supervision of the registered healthcare practitioner, in accordance with the Trust values.
There will be opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills, specific to your needs. Training will be provided to ensure you have the required core skills and skills set specific to your area of work. You will also be supported to obtain your care certificate if you do not have this qualification.

Band 3 Ophthalmic Technician
Full time & Part time
As an Ophthalmic Technician you will support the outpatient teams for the provision and overall smooth running of our clinical services. This will involve data entry, eyesight and visual field testing along with the general personal care and support of the patient. You will have responsibility for preparing our patients and undertaking their investigations, performing a range of basic imaging tests and procedures as well as providing the reports and baseline evaluations for review by other clinical staff.
You will receive training at the Bristol Eye Hospital and when relevant competencies have been achieved you will be required to attend peripheral clinic and hospital sites to deliver the required clinical care. Therefore, a willingness and capacity to travel to different working locations will be required, as well as the ability to provide services on days across the whole week, including weekends when required.
You will be required to communicate in an empathetic manner with patients, relatives and carers who may be emotionally distressed or who may have barriers to understanding, such as learning difficulties, language, hearing difficulties or visual impairment and to children and babies. In summary you will assist in the provision of a high standard of ophthalmic and personal care ensuring the smooth running of our clinics.
